Just a reminder that we will be holding our Thursday night clinic again next week, June 25th. We will be focusing on hitting. All members of the league are encouraged to attend. We will work on various levels of hitting, from beginner to those that are wanting to learn advanced hitting such as placement of the ball to various fields. We will begin at 6:30 at Sullivan Field. Please check the league phone line for cancellation due to rain. |
The Steel City Softball League (SCSL) was founded in 1982. Initially comprised of five teams, the SCSL has grown to include eleven teams competing in two divisions. The original five teams where the pioneers of the SCSL putting Pittsburgh on the map of the LGBT sports community. The SCSL has grown its membership now over 200 strong. Members from the various teams compete from May to August building camaraderie, friendships, and a healthy – yet fun - competition amongst the teams.
The SCSL became part of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) which sponsors the Gay Softball World Series (GSWS). NAGAAA currently has 34 Open Division Leagues which make up the membership of NAGAAA in the United States and Canada. NAGAAA is who the SCSL looks to for rules, regulations, and opportunities to travel to other cities for tournaments. Pittsburgh hosted the NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series in 1990.
The SCSL reaches out to men and women of all skill levels having both a recreational and competitive division. The purpose of the Steel City Softball League is to promote bonds of fellowship with special emphasis within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) community, through education and enjoyment of the sport of softball. The SCSL fosters mutual respect among all persons regardless of ability, age, race, creed, sexual orientation or preference. |
