Our league is targeted to and for members of the GLBTQ community but we welcome any person who supports our community.
For insurance reasons, you must be at least 18 years old to play in the league.
The official season begins in April with Spring Training and runs through August. Teams often attend tournaments throughout the year, this is 100% voluntary.
The league consists of players with various skill levels – from highly skilled players to players who have never played softball.
Our D Division consists of members who are novice through medium skill levels. Throughout the season coaches will help you to improve your skills, strategies, and understanding of the rules and strategies.
More skilled players are placed in the C Division.
The cost to play is subject to change and primarily depends on the cost for fields and umpires. New players fees for the 2014 season are $50. Returning member fees are $70 until 4/1/14 and then $80 after 4/1. The individual fees help pay for the operating costs associated with the SCSL.
You will need athletic attire. Spikes are highly recommended but you are allowed to play in sneakers. You cannot wear metal spikes. You will also need a softball glove. Teams are responsible for their own jerseys and this is typically paid for through fundraising, team sponsors, or individually. All other equipment is provided by the league.
You can become as involved as you’d like. The league is run by volunteers and it is because of the volunteers that we are successful. You may volunteer for committees or you may also just play softball. You level of involvement is completely up to you.
You are not required to attend every game. Communicate with your coach regularly on the days you cannot attend the games or practice. Everyone understands you are here to play softball and have fun but may have other obligations. We also offer the ability to join the league as a social member. The fee for a social member is $20 per social member, per season. Social members support their teams and attend the banquet at the member’s cost.
The Steel City Softball League has a long history with NAGAAA, but as of the 2014 season, the league has opted not to renew its membership based on the associated costs and the membership requirements.
